  • Eddy van den Heuvel trophy for the best NET TEAM
    • Eddy Van Den Heuvel was not only a founding member of the Maastricht Eurocontrol Golf Society but also one of the visionaries (together with Fred Le Noble & Martin Germans) behind the European Controllers Golf Championship. The first event was held in 1988 and expanded to 15 teams in Dublin in 1992.

The ECGC as it is known, now hosts around 200 ATCO’s from all over Europe on an annual basis and continues to go from strength to strength. Eddy participated in nearly every ECGC event from its inception right up until his last event in Switzerland in 2024.

Eddy’s passion for golf was evident in the way he championed these initiatives, bringing people together through a shared love for the sport combined with a professional connection. Eddy’s dedication to fostering camaraderie and teamwork among his colleagues transcended the boundaries of our professional lives, creating a community that cherished both competition and friendship. Eddy loved nothing more than meeting fellow controllers to share a drink, have a laugh and create memories on the golf course and in the clubhouse.

On the golf course Eddy played with an infectious enthusiasm & sportsmanship that inspired everyone around him, even when not playing well it was always “just a chip and a putt”. Eddy’s presence elevated the experience and enjoyment for all participants. The ECGC will forever cherish his contributions and the countless memories we shared with him on the green.

Eddy’s legacy will forever be a part of the ECGC and in acknowledgement, a trophy has been named in his honour, with the first winner being announced in 2025 at The Belfry.
